Vegan Dirty Rice Recipe
We are going to start by preheating our oven to degrees Fahrenheit.
I have regular medium size head of cauliflower here. I am just going to cut out the stem and
chop it up into crumbles.
Once you have that done, place it all into a bowl so that we can add some fixins.
We are going to add in chopped walnuts, vegetable broth, soy sauce, liquid smoke, garlic powder, and a dash of salt.
Stir that all together until it is well combined. Pour your mixture out onto a baking sheet that has been lined with
parchment paper and bake it for minutes.
Eveyonce and a while you want to comeback and stir it around so that the moisture escapes all of the cauliflower equally.
When it is don, it should be brown and crisp, but not brunt.
While that is baking we are going to make our brown rice.
Bring water to a boil over high heat and then add in your brown rice. Stir it around one good time, and then place a top on it.
Lower your heat down to a simmer and let it sit and simmer and cook for minutes to an hour.
Now just to finish up the dirty rice, we are going to saute a few vegetables.
To a large skillet, I am going to add just enough vegetable broth to cover the bottom of the pan.
I am going to add in some bell pepper, I have orange and green. I kind of looks like peas and carrots,
which may not be a bad idea. But, I wasn’t that smart so orange and green bell pepper it is.
Once it has sauteed for a little bit, I am just going to scoot it to the side and add in my chopped onions.
Let your onions sit and sizzle and absorb some of the vegetable broth, and get really soft and milder the taste.
What does that mean? Milder the taste.
Now I am going to add in our cauliflower or ground beef mixture.
Stir that in until it is well combined. Sprinkle on some cayenne pepper to give it that New Orleans
and Louisiana kick.
Then I am going to add in my brown rice. Pour your brown rice over it using a spoon
but when you stir it together be sure to use a fork. Else you will turn the rice into mush and nobody wants that.
Now that you have it all mixed together, we are ready to taste it.
Everybody will be able to enjoy this dish. Vegans, vegetarians, neither. It has nothing particularly offensive in it.
And it is just enjoyable. I can see why someone would think this dish needed more salt,
so if you want to add a little bit more salt to it while you are cooking it, go right ahead. I like to keep my sodium levels a little low though so I enjoy it just as it is.
